Help with Own Your Friends
What can I do in the game?
- Buy the profiles of your friends, or buy a celebrity's
profile to show that you are a big fan.
- Get lots of people to buy you and you can become one of
the most valuable players.
- Write comments on other players' newsfeeds.
- Change your pets' status messages — when you own
someone, you can change the message next to their profile.
- Use your pets to hug and poke other players.
- Set your mood to show how you feel about your owner.
Why do people own me?
- You are a good investment!
Your owner earns a profit when you receive messages, or when someone
decides to buy you at a higher price.
- You are popular and people like you!
Your owner may be a friend (or a friend-in-the-making) who wants to
show that they like you.
How can I make money?
- Log in! You can receive a $3,000 login bonus every eight
hours when you load the main Own Your Friends page.
- Give a gift to a friend! Whenever you give one of your
pets to a friend, you'll earn 1,250.
Go to the "Buy Friends" tab
Find the friend you want to send a gift
Click "Give so-and-so a human gift" next to their picture.
Choose which of your pets to give them.
- Get purchased! When someone buys your profile, you get
half the profit!
Send a bulletin to your friends asking them to buy you.
Click here to send a Bulletin Now!
Give your friends a direct link to your profile — you can
send it to your friends in email or post it to the forums.
- Receive comments! You get paid when someone writes a
comment on your newsfeed.
- Buy popular pets! You get paid when your pets receive
comments or get purchased.
What's the message next to my picture?
- Your status message is a place where your owner can post
a funny message about you.
You can change the status message of your pets, too. On the home tab of
Own Your Friends, scroll down to your pets list and click
"change status message" next to the pet you want to change.
It's ok to tease your friends, but don't be mean!
If someone writes a nasty message, you can use the privacy
controls described below.
How do I control who can contact me?
- Block an individual player.
View the Own Your Friends details page of the person you
want to block. Click on the "Block" button at the bottom of
their profile, underneath their pets. You will be prompted
for confirmation.
If you block your owner, your status message will be cleared
and you will no longer be their pet. They won't be
reimbursed for having bought you!
- Unblock someone
Go to the "Privacy" tab of Own Your Friends. It will show
a list of players you have blocked. Click unblock next to
the player you want to unblock.
- Clear your status message.
To clear your status message, you should block your owner
using the block feature described above.
- Only allow your friends to contact you.
Go to the "Privacy" tab of Own Your Friends. You can
toggle the checkbox labeled "Only allow my friends to buy
me."
Note that if your current owner is not one of your friends,
this option won't make them lose you as a pet — you'll still
have to block them individually as described above.
- Opt-out of the game — nobody can see your profile, and
you won't be able to play.
There is a link to opt-out of Own Your Friends at the top
of the privacy tab. You will be prompted for confirmation.
- Give away an unwanted pet.
If you have a pet you don't want, you can always give it
to Tom as a gift.
- To report abusive or inappropriate behavior, write to
abuse@mail.ownyourfriendsapp.com
Please include the MySpace friend ids or links to the
MySpace profile pages for the people involved. I won't be
able to lookup what's going on without it.
Why doesn't ... work?
- How do I remove the app?
Go to your homepage and click "Manage Apps."
If you don't want it to be shown on your page, click on
"Settings" next to Own Your Friends.
If you want to remove it completely, click the "Remove"
button.
- Why do some profile pictures say "not active" in the
corner?
That means that person doesn't have Own Your Friends
installed right now. You can send them an invite to
encourage them to join.
- Why do I sometimes see the wrong information when I use
multiple accounts from one computer?
Sometimes cached information from one of your accounts
shows up under another.
The easiest way to avoid the whole problem is to close your
browser after you sign out of one of your MySpace accounts.
